Why Studying 8-9 Hours Is Not Equal To Consistency.

First of all you need to understand that what consistency is.

Consistency means:-
  • Showing up every day.

You are focussing to much on hours, but not on the output.

You know most of the students are studying almost hours and hours and still don't get the results. Because results never comes from how much time you spent on studying like study more and more, the result will always come due of the output you have at the end of the day. So it is very important that you should have productive hours and how much tasks you have completed.

You are getting exhausted.

You know if you are studying constantly 8-9 hours without sufficient breaks, you will drain willpower. Your mind gets resists while studying as you get mentally exhausted. So it is important that you should have proper breaks in your studies as you are not getting exhausted.

You have unrealistic daily targets.

You know that setting a very busy schedule sometimes makes you angry. Also you have set some unrealistic targets which is very difficult to achieve. So it is very important that you should have a suitable schedule because if you don't you will definitely break it.

You are relying too much on motivation.

You should be aware that motivation is just a temporary thing. Without a proper systematic approach consistency is tough. As motivation sometimes charge you up but it doesn't lasts long. So it is important that do not lie only on motivation.

How To Stay Consistent While Studying 8-9 Hours Daily.

  1. Shift Yourself From "Hours Based" To Task Based" Studying:- You have to do this. Instead of studying 8-9 hrs a day, you have to finish 2 chapters a day or do the revisions as well. When you do this you are doing an activity which is task based. Through task based activities you measure your progress by output your brain feels achievement. And achievement will helps you to build consistency. You should have to take actions. For example- Just take 3-5 daily tasks and finish them without worrying about hours, no matter how much hours it could take you to finish off these 3-5 tasks. If tasks are done in 6 hours just stop. This will build your quality over quantity.
  2. Use the 90-20 Study Rule:-  You should know that your brain always works best in cycles. So divide all your work in cycles. For example, study for 90 minutes with deep focus and take 15-20 minutes complete break. You have to make sure that you should not use mobile phone during breaks. Just walk, stretch, drink water or you can meditate. So due to this you feel a change in yourself and this helps you to maintain consistency in your studies. Also it prevents you from mental fatigue and it helps you to maintain 8-9 productive hours without burnout.
  3. Make Plans Weekly, Not Just Daily:- Most of the students plan only one day a time. It causes inconsistency. So you have to do this instead of one day planning. Make weekly targets and distribute them into daily goals. And also keep one day light for yourself as it allows you to not getting overload. Take an example as how to create schedule. Monday-Friday: Heavy Subjects.  Saturday: Revision and one mock test.  Sunday: Revise subject in a lighter way. You know that consistency also needs to improve and it improves when your brain knows that there is a recovery time as well for you.
  4. Build A Fixed Study Routine:- Most of the time you feel people waste a lot of time due to not having a fixed schedule or routine, so you have to make a pattern for yourself. Wake up at same time, start studying at the same time and have breaks at fixed intervals. You will see a change in yourself automatically after 21-30 days. Your mind automatically enters into the "study mode". Because your mind adapts it. The fixed routine allows you to have better consistency. So a fixed routine also helps you to stay consistent in your studies.
  5.  Find And Remove The Consistency Killers:- Normally people try to follow consistency but most of them are inconsistent due to the distractions you have in your life. For example- Excessive use of social media, poor sleep (less than 6-7 hours), not doing exercise, having junk food, and due to excess overthinking. You should have to know that if you want to maintain consistency in your studies, you should have to take care of your physical as well as your mental health. So you should take care of these things: (1) Minimum sleep of 7 hours.  (2) Do at least 20-30 minutes of daily exercise.  (3) Reduce the usage of social media or unnecessary scrolling.  (4) Drink adequate amount of water. As we all know that only a healthy body supports a consistent mind.
  6. Use A Standard Non Negotiable Rule:- As we all know that we have a study limit. So decide your minimum limit for daily study. Through this you will be able to know your baseline. For example- If you have a bad day, just study 4 hours. Even if you are sick, at least do revision of 1 hour. Through this you will not break your rhythm even for a single day. Not a huge effort but on these days your small efforts continue to maintain your consistency in studies.
  7. Track Your Progress:- You should be aware of how much task you have completed in a day. This is very important as it is considered as self analysis. So use a wall calendar, or a diary or some notebook checkmarks to analyse yourself. Mark regularly when you complete your study target. If you see a series of completed tasks regularly, you will get more motivation to continue. Also your mind gets train to work like this and it will not easily break.
  8. Stop Studying 9 Hrs If It's Causing Burnout:- You should know that every student has their own capacity in which they are comfortable to follow.  So if you feel 9 hours daily is heavy for you, so you can reduce it to 7-8 hrs focussed hrs. Because it is much better to study 7 hrs for daily upto 6 months rather than just study 9 hrs for 10 days and then collapse. Because only long term consistency take you to victory, but short term doesn't.
  9.  Understand That Consistency Follows Through Emotions:-  Some days you feel tired. You do not want to study. But successful one study anyway in any condition. So consistency build through discipline. For example- (1) Study when you are motivated. (2) Study when you feel bored. (3) Study when you are tired.  (4)  Study when your results are slow.  You have to study no matter how much workload you have or any thing else. Because emotions varying time to time but discipline remains as it is.
  10. Track Your Energy By Follow Consistency:- Some days you feel your energy is high and other days you feel low. So it is very important to create a balance between these days. Instead of forcing yourself to distribute equal intensity daily, you can study tough subjects on high intensity days and do revisions or practice on low intensity days. This will helps you to maintain your study routine and also not causing burnout. Because consistency doesn't means perfection. It means smart adjustment.

Common Mistakes That Destroy Your Consistency.

But there are a lot of things due to which you should not be able to follow consistency in your studies. So first of all you should avoid all these:

  • Ignoring your health.
  • Change your time table every week.
